01 / QUICK START

How to use the China Address Generator

This free China address generator creates sample records for testing and learning. Each result contains a complete Chinese address, its full pinyin transcription, and an English address arranged from the smallest location to the largest. Separate fields show the province, city, district, street, house number, and a six digit postal code. The pinyin follows the Chinese text and retains administrative terms such as Shi and Qu. Numbers remain numerals, so you can compare the three versions without losing the house number.

  1. Choose a city. Select Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen. Choose Random city to let each record draw independently from those four locations. A random batch can contain several records from the same city.
  2. Set the quantity and generate. Start with the default five addresses, or enter a whole number from one to one hundred. Select Generate addresses to replace the displayed batch. Save any results you want to keep before generating again.
  3. Copy or export your results. Use Copy beside an individual field, or Copy full address for the complete English address. Download CSV for a spreadsheet workflow or JSON for an application fixture. Both downloads preserve the current records and their order.

No registration is needed. The initial examples remain readable without JavaScript; enable JavaScript to generate, copy, and download a new batch. These sample addresses are intended for controlled demonstrations, not deliveries.

02 / ADDRESS ANATOMY

Understanding the Chinese address format

Chinese address text normally moves from a large area to a small one: province → city → district → street → house number. Beijing and Shanghai are municipalities, so their names appear once in a complete address even though both the province and city fields contain the same name. A real delivery address may also need a building, floor, room, and recipient; this generator does not produce those extra fields.

The postal code is a separate routing element. On a postal label, the UPU examples place it before the province or municipality name. Our compact English display places it after the location text for easy copying into forms. Match a real shipment to the carrier's requested layout. See the UPU China addressing reference for postal label examples.

Beijing: municipality example

北京市朝阳区明月路28号

Beijing Shi Chaoyang Qu Mingyue Lu 28 Hao

No. 28 Mingyue Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, 100000, China

Guangzhou: province example

广东省广州市天河区春风路82号

Guangdong Sheng Guangzhou Shi Tianhe Qu Chunfeng Lu 82 Hao

No. 82 Chunfeng Road, Tianhe District, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, 510000, China

These invented examples illustrate equivalent components in different writing systems. Their layout does not establish that a particular premise exists.

03 / POSTAL REFERENCE

China postal code rules and city examples

Mainland China uses six digit postal codes. In the usual four level explanation, the first two digits indicate a province level postal region, the third narrows the postal area, the fourth identifies a county or city level area, and the final two identify the delivery office or area. These are postal routing codes, not telephone area codes. This structure is described in Xinhua's report explaining the postal coding system.

The table lists reference examples associated with ten cities, taken from TravelChinaGuide's city postal code table. A city can have many postal codes: one example does not cover every street, district, or delivery address. Look up the exact recipient address for real mail. This reference table does not expand the generator, which supports only Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

Chengdu610000
Hangzhou310000

Xi'an710000
Guilin541000
Hohhot010000

Keep postal codes as text when moving data between systems. Hohhot's example begins with a zero; storing it as a number would discard that character. For CSV imports, set the postal_code column to Text before loading the data.

04 / WRITING IN ENGLISH

How to write a Chinese address in English

Begin a compact English address with the house number and street, then add the district, city, province where applicable, postal code, and country. This gives readers a small to large sequence. Chinese text normally uses the reverse geographical sequence, with the house number after the street. When comparing the two, check the components individually rather than expecting the words to occupy the same position. A municipality such as Shanghai does not need to be repeated as both city and province in the complete line.

Keep a place name recognizable by using its pinyin spelling. In the examples on this page, Lu becomes Road and Jie becomes Street, while Qu becomes District and Sheng becomes Province. These labels describe the role of a component. They are not a reason to translate a place name literally into a different English phrase. For instance, Mingyue Road corresponds to Mingyue Lu; the name remains Mingyue in both versions.

Use commas to separate components in a single line, or put the components on separate lines if a form allows it. Enter the postal code in its own field when one is provided. For actual correspondence, obtain the recipient's complete address and follow the carrier's formatting instructions, including any building or room details. A generated example helps you understand the ordering but cannot confirm delivery information.

05 / PRACTICAL USES

When a random China address is useful

  • Form testing

Check how your own forms handle Chinese characters, long address lines, and six digit postal code strings. Use a test environment where sample records are expected.

  • Development and debugging

Export a repeatable fixture for checking layouts, imports, and field mapping. Save the current JSON before regenerating if a bug depends on a particular record.

  • Privacy in demonstrations

Use sample data instead of your home address in screenshots or product demos. This reduces the need to expose personal details but does not make your activity anonymous.

  • Teaching and learning

Compare Chinese, pinyin, and English versions to explain address order and administrative components. Distinguish postal code format from delivery verification.

06 / QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

How many digits does a China postal code have?

A mainland China postal code has six digits. Keep all six characters when copying or importing one, including any initial zero. Postal codes are different from telephone area codes and should not include a country calling prefix. The reference table above gives city examples, but a city can contain multiple delivery areas with different codes. For an actual shipment, ask the recipient or postal service for the code that matches the complete delivery address.

Does the house number go before or after the street?

In Chinese address text, the street name normally comes before the house number, followed by the character 号. The pinyin version preserves that sequence with Hao. In our English version, No. and the house number come before the street name. For example, 明月路28号 becomes Mingyue Lu 28 Hao in pinyin and No. 28 Mingyue Road in English. These are different written arrangements of the same components, rather than three different locations.

Will these addresses pass every platform's address validation?

No. Platforms use different checks, from simple field length rules to verified delivery databases and account specific requirements. A six digit postal code alone does not establish a valid delivery location. This tool helps you test formatting and sample data handling in systems you control. It does not promise acceptance by a shopping site, financial service, or identity check. For live services that require your address, provide accurate information that meets that service's requirements.

Are the generated addresses real places I can send mail to?

The records are sample data assembled for testing and learning. City and district names provide geographical context, while street and house number combinations can be synthetic. A familiar looking address may coincide with a real place, but the tool does not verify premises or delivery eligibility. Do not use the output to direct a parcel or letter. Obtain the actual recipient's full address, including any building and room details, before arranging a real delivery.

Which cities can I choose, and how does Random city work?

You can choose Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen. Random city chooses independently from those four cities for each record, so a batch may repeat a city and is not guaranteed to contain all four. The postal reference table includes other cities for educational context only. It does not add those cities to the generator. To create a batch for a single supported city, select that city before pressing Generate addresses and check the City field afterward.

Do CSV and JSON downloads create a new set of addresses?

No. Each download contains the records currently displayed, in the same order and quantity. Generating a new batch is a separate action. The CSV includes a header row and quotes fields so that commas in English addresses stay inside their cells. It uses UTF-8 encoding with a byte order mark. JSON stores postal codes as strings. When opening CSV in a spreadsheet, import the postal code column as text to preserve leading zeros.

Is the generator free, and do I need an account?

The generator is free to use and does not require an account. Generation and file creation happen in your browser, and the tool has no address submission form. You can read the initial examples and explanatory content with JavaScript disabled; interactive generation, clipboard buttons, and downloads need JavaScript enabled. Clipboard access may also depend on your browser's permissions. If copying is blocked, select the visible text and use your device's normal copy command.
